The National Park Service Alaska Regional Office will host an Archaeological Human Remains Detection Dog (AHRDD) Training – May 14-15, 2025 in Anchorage (location to be determined)
Today there are methods to find unmarked burials that do not require digging, ground disturbance, or desecration of 0burials. Two of these methods are (1) geophysical instruments, such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and (2) Archaeological Human Remains Detection Dogs (AHRDD). The National Park Service (NPS) is hosting a two-day training on the background, application, and implementation of the AHRDD in Cultural Resource Management. Day 1 (May 14, 2025) will be a hybrid Instructional Day where Paul S. Martin, RPA (Martin Archaeology Consulting, LLC) will present the background and application of AHRDD work. Day 2 (May 15, 2025) will be Practical Exercises, with a limited number of participants, to highlight the implementation of the AHRDD in surveys and Cultural Resource Management.
Please complete this FORM to sign up for the training.
The Instructional Day in the NPS Alaska Regional Office in Anchorage will have a maximum of 30 in-person
participants, but there will be unlimited seats in the virtual option. The Practical Exercises will be limited to 10-15

If you have questions about this training, please contact Justin Junge (justin_junge@nps.gov) from the Alaska Native
Tribal Affairs Program. Please note that AHRDDs will be on-site for both the in-person options for the Instructional
