2008 Annual Meeting of the Alaska Anthropological Association

The 35th annual meetings of the Alaska Anthropological Association will take place February 27- March 1, 2008 at the Hilton Hotel in Anchorage. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 6 to 9 pm at the Hilton.

 

This year’s luncheon speaker will be Julie Cruikshank, Professor Emerita of Anthropology, University of British Columbia. Dr. Cruikshank will speak on Saturday afternoon; her talk is entitled “Encountering Glaciers: Two Centuries of Stories from the Saint Elias Icefields.”

 

This year’s dinner speaker will be Dr. Patricia Sutherland, Curator, Archaeological Survey of Canada, Canadian Museum of Civilization.  Dr. Sutherland will speak on Friday evening on Norse Native contact in the eastern Arctic.

Book by January 23, 2008 to ensure room availability. Cost is $88 + tax for a room with one king or two double beds.

 

The deadline for session organizers, papers and poster abstracts is December 30, 2007. Please submit all abstracts electronically to Rachel Mason (Rachel_Mason@nps.gov) or Polly Wheeler (polly_wheeler@fws.gov) by that date.  For paper abstracts, please specify the session you wish to present in (if known), and whether or not you have contacted the session chair.

 

Abstracts should be no longer than 100 words, and should be accompanied by the name, affiliation, mailing and e-mail addresses, and phone number for each author. They should also specify if the abstract is for a contributed paper, a symposium paper, a symposium, or a poster.  Please submit all information via email as MS word file attachments in a standard font with no elaborate formatting or photos.
